| Those that attended the meeting would have heard that at the request of local councillors LBH have undimmed the lights in the local areas most affected by street crime. A proper review of the council's dimming policy will follow. Improvements have already been made to CCTV coverage and council officers are looking at ways of getting more temporary and permanent cameras installed at key locations. My political point was that for the last three years (at least) Hounslow Council has failed to deliver on the cost cutting that it has approved in its annual budget. The resulting significant over spends have led to more desperate measures being adopted. Dimming the lights was trumpeted as an environment-friendly measure with a small (in council terms) saving. The latest budget setting cycle is in full swing and your local councillors are scrutinising all aspects of the budget in order to ensure that this years budget is deliverable and balanced and that no measures are taken that will compromise public safety. We will push for the lights to be undimmed all across the Borough where and when this is appropriate. |
