| "So stop dimming lights and .... spend a few peanuts on bloody upgrading the 1980's CCTV that London seems to have!" Hounslow Council's staff reacted quickly to requests from Chiswick's Councillors and undimmed the street lighting associated with high risk streets and paths around Chiswick Back Common. A wider review of street lighting will be undertaken. In November Hounslow Council approved the creation of a new Community Safety and Enforcement Service for the borough, to be located at a refurbished centre at Trimmer Walk, Brentford. The new control hub will bring together trading and food standards; housing estate wardens and police officers; neighbourhood enforcement; parks patrol; in-house police teams; private sector housing; community safety and CCTV controls and operation, comprising 108 posts in all. Bringing the services currently located at four locations under one roof will require a total investment of £4.68m of which £2.55m will come from the Housing Revenue Account (HRA) and £2.125m from the general fund. The new CCTV command and control hub will support the Housing, Community Safety and Traffic Enforcement services with upgraded CCTV network and systems to more effectively serve the three service areas. The service will operate 7 days a week and offer extended services from early mornings until late at night to reflect the needs of the communities and demands on the services. |
