| The article on the front page tells us that the Government has given a billion pounds to encourage social housing to be built in London. This isn't an entirely altruistic gesture but has been made necessary by the collapse in the number of schemes being started by private developers. Now rather than Lendlease having to shoulder the cost of fake affordable housing, which is effectively a tax on building homes that doesn't really benefit anyone, proper council homes can be included as part of the scheme paid for by Hounslow and built on a cost plus basis by Lendlease. They can therefore reduce the price of the private flats and still be more comfortable with making a return on the scheme. If they don't take this opportunity to resurrect the project then the suspicion that they are playing some sort of game with Sainsbury's starts to look more than just a local conspiracy theory. |
