| I wasn't 'blaming' Landlease Karen, indeed I simply said that given the circumstances one might understand their inaction, and none of us can say that without the JR attempt the site would remain as it does instead of having been developed as per that permission. I recently acted on a site where an objector made a completely OTT and unjustified verbal attack on myself, my clients and the LPA Officers whilst presenting at a committee meeting, indirectly implying that in some way we'd 'persuaded' the Case Officer to support our scheme and so forth. Afew weeks later the same objector, who until that point I'd always had a perfectly amicable relationship with, rings me up and starts asking what are we going to do about a fence between the sites he thinks is needs replacing and is attracting rabbits into his garden. As I said to him, I was happy to pass that information onto my clients, but he could hardly expect my clients to bend over backwards for him after his 'attack' on us at committee, and the same principle could apply here. Which is a shame, whether I'm acting for or against development I bear no malice or ill feeling towards my 'opposition', that is until the rare point where they make accusations about 'dodgy goings on' or such like, and at that point it's no more Mr. Nice Guy. As I always say to objectors, keep your objections reasonable and proportionate, the more sensationalist you get the more the credibility of your arguments (whilst might be entirely credible in all other respects) goes out the window. And the subject of cost isn't about the physical cost of 'defending' a JR (which after all didn't even get that far and as I know from being involved in similar situations in the past involves very little direct expense for a developer) but the costs associated with the delay and uncertainty created by an attempt at JR. Don't get me wrong, JR has its place, but I'm being generous when I say the JR attempt here was 'misguided'. |
