A Canadian university has developed a new, thin plastic that is five times more efficient at converting the sun's power into electric energy than conventional solar panels. It could make it a lot more cost effective to install solar. This film could easily be sandwiched between sheets of glass in a conservatory roof (probably making any south-facing conservatory more comfortable in summer too, as I presume it will reduce the solar energy getting through without causing too much shade). It can also, apparently, be applied like paint to any device, which perhaps means that electirc or hybrid cars could have it applied and boost their batteries while they park. For more details, have a look at: http://www.cbc.ca/story/science/national/2005/01/10/thin-solar-panel050110.html
