What I want to see is far more investment in the sciences in the broad sense. Sir Paul Nurse is getting exposure and he says that apart from America we have the best scientists in the world.

Also, the number of people going from primary to secondary without being able to read or write adequately is very serious. When they leave school how much more unemployment shall we see? The high tax payers will have to pay even more and that certainly will get their dander up. Pity they don't think more long term and spend more on R&D - and less on bonuses.

I don't understand education politics enough to have an informed view, but if Gove produces better results then I don't care how he achieves his goals.
