I don't particularly care who owns it (see arguments with David Giles for reference) as long as there's a quality product made in the UK at the end of it. Better owned by a massive Indian conglomerate than shuttered and broken up by admininstrators (see Rover for details). The one I'm still staggered by, actually, is commercial shipbuilding, where we should have numerous advantages in a market that is sufficiently profitable for the French, Italians and Finns to turn a profit at it. Instead we finally threw in the towel about a decade before the world started demanding massive cruise ships in increasing numbers. |
