Richard, Granted the unions were a large part of the problem,particularly in th 70's but another major factor in those days was a serious lack of innovation,investment and direction from managment.In the car industry for instance management took the British public for granted by sanctioning the production of relatvely poor quality and old fashioned models with the attitude hat they were good enough in the past and they would be good enough then.Many of them were ex-public scholl types( no disrespect intended to anyone) who had no real idea of the working class who were making and buying their cars. |
