Thanks Diane - I think the issue you are referring to was that the ownership of UK properties by large retail chains (and not their head offices) was structured through offshore companies to avoid large stamp duty liabilities on sale. When this was all disclosed the counter argument about UK business taxes surfaced. There have been a few UK quoted groups such as WPP, who moved their head office offshore given certain UK international tax rules but none in the retail sector I believe. |
