I for one am very sorry to see these closures. It's bad news for the area which already has many problems as a retail and restaurant area with far too many chain stores that can be found in the crummiest towns in the UK where you don't have to pay £1m for a house or take out finance to park your car. Chiswick High Road must have a wider and superior, independent retail offer to survive as a thriving local shopping district. I patronised all these places in the High Road and will now have to go to them elsewhere. It makes no sense that Balans a large popular restaurant with queues at the door and part of a very successful chain has had to shut down. Most of the other restaurants are already at full capacity especially at the weekends. Eating out in casual restaurants is part of the shopping/leisure experience. Westfield will simply draw more people from the High Road because it offers instant parking and a spectacular range of shops and restaurants. Doesn't Hounslow Council realise the High Road has to compete? |
