"Doesn't Hounslow Council realise the High Road has to compete?" What has this to do with Hounslow Council? It's a matter of rents, it seems, which are to do with landlords and in turn to do with our finance-dominated economy. As things go, Chiswick High Road is not a difficult place to visit, with normally ample parking available for free (as long as you buy your milk and papers in the store) courtesy of a deal done years ago between Hounslow Council and Sainsbury's. Plus a station at either end of the High Road and an excellent network of buses. And I'd say Chiswick is blessed by a good blend between chains and independents provided you treat it as an everyday High Street rather than a mega-shopping destination. |
