"Spend all your money on you." No or little chance. The Government wants it and as usual only the most wealthy can afford to avoid giving most of it to them. You won't be able to happily spend it all on you either because you won't know how long you will want it to last for. At what age should you decide to improve your eyesight/hearing/mobility etc with dramatic intervention and at huge cost leaving you enough to still be able to afford everything you need for the rest of your life? It is still the problem that this is an area which is very difficult TO plan. People who do try and plan find that the rules change. You could say they are penalised. How sure are you that you wouldn't want to change your chosen exit date? It isn't as simple as "Beam Me Up Scotty" you would also have to make other choices. More decisions that need to be taken... while you are able to take them... which is likely to be exactly when you don't want to take them or don't have or want to make time to take them. If it was as easy as that then you could make too hasty a decision too. If you had three wishes... Shouldn't you be given the best chance to get better and have as good a quality of life as you can? Now if you are taken into hospital and are too ill to speak up for yourself and no-one else speaks up for you/claims you then you may have no chance if you are elderly, particularly if there are enough boxes that can be ticked while you are feeling so awful. Hesitate over your date of birth and you could be done for. Forget the fact that you were busy thoroughly enjoying life and fit enough and healthy enough before whatever brought you into hospital and you are here simply because of that - and not because you have requested a quick exit. |
