"Many people today are too young to remember the disasterous Labour Governments of the Wilson/Callaghan era that preceeded the Conservatives coming to power in 1979. Many people are also too young to remember the great changes and improvements brought in by the Conservative Governments from 1979 to 1997." I remember all these - but the Thatcher years turned me into member of the Labour party. The Blair years turned me into an ex member of the Labour party. I couldn't vote for him at the last election so abstained. However I remain anti Tory despite Cameron's attempts to take Blair's middle ground. And I think too many people who remember these governments feel like that for Cameron to get in. David I think you're wrong that remembering these years will help the Conservatives. Their best chance is people not remembering before the Blair governments - so they will have forgotten that they should know better |
