Tina, I agree that we should be more concerned about the present and the future than about the past. However an understanding of the past sometimes helps us understand the present and plan for the future. Many people today are too young to remember the disasterous Labour Governments of the Wilson/Callaghan era that preceeded the Conservatives coming to power in 1979. Many people are also too young to remember the great changes and improvements brought in by the Conservative Governments from 1979 to 1997 which changed Britain so much for the better. These Conservative Governments helped create the freedom and prosperity we have enjoyed since but which Gordon Brown's Labour Government is now intent on destroying. However most of us now appreciate that the Blair/Brown era since 1997 has been a disaster for Britain and the sooner it is ended the better. |
