David, The US is a right wing country, that's not a secret. It's lack of 'socialist' policies have had a very bad effect on the country. Compare it to central to left countries, such as those you see in Northern Europe, and you'll see what I mean. A lot of conservative thinking only makes sense in the short term and in does lead to bigger differences between rich and poor, the educated and under educated and the healthy and those in need of care. I know you view the world socialism as some kind of nasty word, much as it is the US, but it's about creating a stable socierty - one where you don't get the have nots praying on the haves and vica versa. Being pro socierty does not mean you have to be a 'red' or a member of a marxist or communist organisation - we all know those systems did not work for very obvious reason. The UK as a fairly good form of social liberal democracy that means we will weather the forth coming financial storm. And that is in part down to health insurance and social care, things the US needs to start putting in place to prevent those who do not have from falling through the gaps and costing the nation a fortune. These people do not disappear but put a strain on the rest of society in the form of cost to business through badly educated staff to loss of business to crime. If only a few have money there will be less business so it makes financial sense to redistribute wealth to a level where people have a choice. I always here the word 'choice' associated with right wing thinking when what I see is the choice to spend more on more things, and less choice on those who can't afford that. So instead of saying 'British Socialist policies would make the problems in the USA worse' how about qualifying that with some kind of joined up thinking? How about some hypothesis behind your declarations? |
