I don't know how you come to that conclusion. Tom, have a look at Webtrak zoomed right out. You'll see that most flights join the final approach over South London (New Cross, Camberwell). Joining at the back of the queue, so to speak, flights from north and south merge into single file at present, but without alternation could be directed to either approach. It is the late-joining flights that would be constrained to one of the two runways, depending from which side they joined (north or south). There are very few of these anyway, and they are not constrained to the paths through Bedford Park and Hammersmith shown in that research report. |
