Just to mention that I nipped along to the airportwatch "Successful Airport Campaigning" conference today where there was a jaw-dropping demonstration from EANS of their "do-it-yourself" noise and track monitoring system that appears to have many benefits over webtrak (provided that someone stumps up the money to install a few microphones and a squawk box to collect the plane transponder signals). They have linked up Germany, Switzerland France and the Netherlands and seemed very happy to service UK data if it was wanted. The designer has now linked the tracks to Google earth and 3D views of the flight paths are available (if you can drive Google earth !). Today was the launch of his latest addition which uses an aircraft database linked to the engine performance data to calculate the emissions info for each landing/take-off cycle (and then compares it with how far round the earth you would have to drive a car to get the same emissions.) http://www.eans.net/ from homepage: The EANS network is a union of several European organizations with the aim to make information about aircraft noise transparent. * We measure aircraft noise where people live. * We ensure transparency, by publishing and archiving the measured values in the World Wide Web. * We inform about the consequences of aircraft noise load. * We supply solid arguments in the fight against aircraft noise all over Europe. * With our system, we supervise the European airports and we demand for a European-wide night flight prohibition. * Our data prove that all over Europe night rest is disturbed by aircraft noise. |
