| You may both be right although 'LTN theatrics' have no impact on Sunday roasts. In fact less restrictive parking in the vicinity of this site would give it a competitive advantage over the riverside pubs. While I might be ignoring the specifics of individual locations, so does the marketing report. The closure of the Mawson Arms tells us nothing about the state of the pub market. Vanity investment is a part of many businesses and the James Blunt purchase doesn't necessarily fall into this category - he seems to have a proper business plan for the site and has succeeded at other venues. There was always the long rumoured possibility of Declan Donnelly backing a venture to save the pub he used to drink in regularly. The council probably does benefit both in terms of extra housing and revenue if flats are built here so their incentive to look closely at this application is reduced. The only thing that would change that is local outrage but, at this point, there appears to be zero. |
