| I drove back from central london yesterday along the Westway, and I passed around twenty pairs of signs ( indicating that the speed limit was 30 mph) between the point where the A501 becomes the Westway ( and the speed limit goes from 20 mph to 30 mph) and the northern roundabout (junction of the A40 with the A3220). The signs were on both sides of the road i.e. there were about forty signs in total. There were also signs indicating that there is average speed enforcement by cameras in place. It's a requirement that the initial sign indicating a change of speed limit is of at least a certain size. Repeater signs are permitted to be smaller than the signs that are mandated at the start of the start of the new speed limit. If someone fails to realise that there is a 30mph speed limit on the Westway on the section I described it's not because the signage isn't good enough, it's because they are so unobservant that they shouldn't even be driving. |
