The benefit of Brexit is to avoid being drawn further into ever-closer union, as has been the case over the past forty-odd years, without any opportunity during that time for the electorate to say "enough is enough". The treaties of Maastricht and Lisbon are examples of this process, and if Tony Blair had had his way, we would have adopted the Euro as well. Unlike some, I never thought that extracting the UK from this morass would be easy or straightforward, but better now than when the process has moved on even further, as the likes of Macron advocate. Recent events in Paris give an idea of what might be coming if the Euro-fanatics keep pushing forward. If ever-closer union is what you want, why not come out and say so ? |
