To quote Hugo Rifkind: "The Overton Window now looks out onto hell." It's a sign of how the Leave side have criminally moved the goalposts on this argument that an option that both sides agreed was utter madness during the campaign is now branded as a "WTO Brexit" a course of action that every single leading economist has said will lead to a 1930's style depression. I know it's unfashionable to rely on experts nowadays, but when it comes to economic advice I think I'll take the word of a man who worked at 13 years at Goldman Sachs, is the ex Governor Bank of Canada, a G7 Minister, the chair of financial stability board, a member of the Group of 30 an international body of leading financiers and academics. Has three degrees from Harvard, St Peters & Nuffield College Oxford; the man who the day after the vote was quite literally the only adult in the room, over a nanny obsessed MP who overcame his appalling start in life to rise to the giddy heights of minor backbencher who cannot count to 48. |
