We all understand that you are attempting to discredit any future referendum before it starts. I get that, you can read the signs as well as anyone that another vote would, this time, be a slightly more informed vote. The made up tosh of the Brexit campaign would be more evidently made up. Statements that worked last time, like "a great deal will be easy" won't wash now. Plus the issues stemming from Brexit would be clearer and the remain camp would be less likely to depend on fear as a driver. They would not have to - they simply need to remind everyone of the existing and future impact of leaving the EU. They might even get brave and highlight one or two benefits from being in the EU (sadly lacking from last time). Overall though apart from a few die hard "Brexit at any cost" the vote will swing to remain. You know this, or you won't worry about discrediting a new referendum. However I suggest you go further than simply noting that it will be yet another referendum on the EU. That won't really cut it once the decision to have another referendum is made. Go further in your undermining. I suggest you insist that it is only a consultative vote, i.e. not binding and not something parliament need implement. That would help your cause no end. |
