Thank you for looking into it. We were knocking on Doors earlier in the week and 2 of our volunteers buzzed the buzzer at a block of flats and explained they were canvassing and someone let them in. One of the residents who our volunteers say were labour activists, took exception to this when their door was knocked and said it was private property, and threatened to call security on them unless they left immediately. I advised Mary Harpley of this during an election briefing meeting, and she said I should advise her if it is an ongoing problem or just a one off. Yesterday, another group of volunteers were delivering leaflets and a similar incident happened. I had a talk with the Estate manager who was vague about it other than claiming "the residents don't like it". I don't want to get anyone into trouble but if you could advise your members that allowing people to canvass and communicate with voters is an important part of the election system and they should not seek to hinder people doing so. I am not prepared to name the individuals in a public forum. |
