I can see things both ways. The guy I 'escorted' off our premises was perfectly pleasant, but I (and others) choose to live here so we are not disturbed by random callers. And there is the security aspect. We have a concierge (who of course pay to have) and I don't want our concierge's time taken up either physically escorting a candidate to the myriad of different postboxes within the development or always having to buzz the candidate in and out of every door - because of the layout of the building it would took a good 30 minutes. I don't deny Vanessa's point about "thinking you're a cut above the rest", although in our case we've got a public walkway through the middle of the development (and very nice it is too) and a Shepherd's Bush managed block which forms part of the development (and I'm sorry but it's a matter of fact that 9 times out of 10 if the police come here then they're going to those flats rather than the private ones). And we have a Residents Association, so we're both a standalone community and part of the wider community. Again though I agree with Vanessa about standing aloof from the political process and not complaining, I'll complain about the state of society, people's selfishness and such like, but not about politics, I voted in the Brexit referendum and that's all I've ever voted in over the last 20 plus years. Quite frankly if a candidate turned up on my doorstep I don't know what we'd talk about...who next for Arsenal ?!. |
