As an analogy, the 1916 Easter Rising could have been described as a "distraction" and a "sideshow" from the global conflict of WW1 that the UK was involved in at the time. However it still achieved the objective of Irish independence from the UK. Now whether it justified the "terrible beauty" as Yeats put it is a different question which is hypothetical anyway. |
