Agreed Alan, this is exactly the problem. May promised to build a national consensus on Brexit, but then announced a hard brexit, out of the single market, the customs union, European court etc. A national consensus means inevitably some compromise, but the extreme right wing of the Tory party and its press cheerleaders are pushing the UK to hard brexit, despite that not being on the ballot and some prominent Brexiters explicity promising that would not happen. Personally I dont blame the Scots, the UK is about to take a huge leap in the dark and so why shoudl the Scots not have the right to do the same. Dicky boy sounds very much like David Davis, the people can speak so long as they say what I want.... but people can change their minds.... I said at the outset that Brexit would see Scottish independence and still expect that as the outcome, N Ireland to follow. But the little Englanders at the Mail wont care about that. |
