Richard, I'm struggling to understand what your guiding principles are in all this. If you are saying sovereignty resides in the will of the people as expressed in a national vote and we have to accept the Brexit result how can you possibly discount the vote by the Scottish people last June? Are you saying that the sovereign will of the English people trumps that of the Scottish people? If anything leaving the EU and the single market will mark an even bigger change of direction than independence would so it seems right that Scotland gets a chance to determine their future in this regard. It is a decision for the Scottish people as to whether they believe their politicians are competent to run their country. |
