Richard, the offensive way this is phrased is exactly why many Scots have shifted towards independence. It may have been unintentional but to speak of 'the country' and suggest thereby that Scotland isn't one isn't going to win you friends north of the border. As has already been pointed out Scotland entered the Union willingly and clearly has the right to withdraw if its people want to. Is your contention that there is no such thing as the 'will of the people' where Scotland is concerned? If not then can you respond to the earlier question about how this principle applies with regard to the European Union but not to the United Kingdom? |
