You are therefore presumably happy that George Osborne is significantly cutting back on the tax breaks available to buy-to-let entrepreneurs and has increased the stamp duty payable by those intent on expanding buy-to-let businesses? Council Houses were not, in my opinion, sold off on the cheap. Council House tenants had and still have gold-plated rights of tenure and the market value of such properties was and is consequently much lower than that for a similar property offered with vacant possession. This is simply basic economics that any estate agent will confirm. It would have been possible to have required those buying their council houses to pay back some of the equity released to the Council if they sold up within say ten years. This would however have made it much more difficult for council tenants to secure mortgage finance.  Politically motivated? Enabling ordinary people to own their own homes is certainly very wicked and someone should put a stop to it ..... interesting how many of our Labour Councillors have benefitted in this way.
