Out of interest I had a look at the spending figures by Hounslow Council published on their web site. For the latest figures available (Oct-Nov) they spent £12,000 with JC Decaux. The planning inspectorate's ruling on the Lucozade sign isn't ambiguous - they said that JC Decaux had to replicate the original sign. They have clearly ignored that probably on the basis that as a large multi-national company they have the financial muscle to make a legal battle to enforce a correct interpretation of the ruling prohibitively expensive for a cash-strapped Council. Even if there wasn't an issue with the questionable corporate behaviour of JC Decaux it would have to be asked why on earth the Council is spending large sums of money with them. Advertising hoardings are a very expensive form of promotion and usually only used by larger companies who bulk buy across a number of sites to get a cheaper rate per site. Hounslow would be paying well above what most of JC Decaux's clients pay. |
