Whilst I haven't been down to see the sign myself, the facts of the case seem far more clear that the rather wild media reports... JC Decaux obtained advertisement consent last year (on appeal to the Inspectorate following refusal by Hounslow Council) to replace the sign, and the relevant documentation makes it clear that the display will change on a regular basis. One poster on the Brentford forum confirmed last night that yesterday evening he saw the display advertising Lucozade (I don't know whether at the time it was only advertising Lucozade or whether every 30 secs or so it rotated between a Lucozade and a a non-Lucozade advert). As I mooted on the Brentford forum, even if the display wasn't advertising Lucozade, I'm not convinced from a strict technical/legal basis (putting the PR angle to one side) the Council would be able to take any formal action. As I've also said, I haven't got much 'sympathy' either way given that IMHO the Council shouldn't have ever given permission for the extra storey upon which the advert is displayed in the first place. |
