My point is that Heathrow is the wrong place for a major airport. We should have grasped the nettle in the 1970s and built Maplin. We should now grasp the nettle and build an airport to the east of London with landing and take-off over water. If we do have a serious crash in a populated area near Heathrow then everyone will suddenly start wondering how we as a nation were so stupid to keep compounding the error by allowing Heathrow to expand. Gatwick is not the best answer, but it is better than Heathrow. |
