My thinking I suppose is based on a view that politics, like nature, abhors a vacuum. Personally I think it is unlikely that a Labour Party following its traditional principles can win because it has already alienated too many people on the progressive wing of politics, especially in Scotland, for it ever to be sufficiently trusted again. But I think a Labour Party following a Tory agenda would have less chance still, for the reasons I have given. My belief, and hope, is that the crisis that Labour finds itself in will be serious enough, and permanent enough, to force a realignment in progressive politics which those of us who feel alienated by Labour's attitude, conduct and (latterly) ideology can be a part of. |
