"If anyone deserves to have social housing in a three bedroom house in Chiswick it is local people who are crying out for it and not people shipped in from Feltham who have no local links and have not even been sending their children to local schools". Yes, but you're not proposing that. You're suggesting that the house is sold for 1.1 million to a rich person who wants to live in Chiswick, and you build a house or two (if we're lucky) in Feltham for social housing. As for more housing, bring it on, let's use taxpayers money to build more houses, or fund more houses from selling the post office. The reason housing benefit is so expensive is because of the enormous rents charged by private landlords, and they can charge enormous rents because there is a housing shortage, and not enough social housing to correct the runaway private rental market. |
