Charlotte - No one forces anyone to buy or sell for that matter. Why this obsession with which sector you house is in? Its all housing. You are fortunate to live in a stable community with people who have lived there for decades. However this does not apply to all social housing nor is it absent from all privately owned housing. If the money from right to buy sales plus the money from the sale of empty high value council properties were invested in new social housing properties the TOTAL supply would increase. Cut out all the ideological baggage is this not what we are trying to achieve? As a council tenant you already have a "golden ticket" you have a subsidised rent at 80% of free market and at least two thirds of your neighbours will be having their rents paid out of housing benefit. If your social housing is not being maintained properly the blame lies at the door of your social housing landlord. To make a political point Hounslow Council has an appalling record for council house voids - frankly it is not fit to be managing social housing. The massive, long running internal frauds by Hounslow Homes (reported elsewhere)just puts the "tin hat" on all of this. |
