No -one can play down the horror of what happened at Mid Staffs, but the fact is that this ridiculous and expensive top down re-organisation inflicted on the NHS by this government has done absolutely nothing to improve matters, and is certainly no excuse for politicians constantly interfering  in the running of the NHS. Kathleen's point as I understand it is - cut it how you may, there is no better way of delivering cradle to grave health care, free at the point of delivery, than our NHS. There is far more negative publicity which people jump on as some sort of justification for yet more interference, when in reality what happens on a day to day basis is really quite amazing. The point is taken about the mess the banks et al have landed us in, not to mention the rip-off merchants who run our utilities, railways and big corporations and the lack of tax a lot of them pay yet they never seem to get the constant colossal vitriol poured on them that the health service does. But then of course they are not public services and in the government's sight for privatisation by any nefarious means.
