Susan, from personal experience with my local surgery (Grove Park) I would say that they fail across all levels - not doing repeat prescriptions properly, GP getting diagnosis wrong, failing to sign off referral letters to consultants, refusing to provide emergency medication on a Sunday. The list goes on. Even if your father had made it to A&E at Middlesex Hospital having visited there recently it is clear they are not coping with the volume of folk coming in the door. They are triarging patients at the door with minor injuries and advising them to take painkillers at home. A&E departments are not coping across most of London due to the fact that GP surgeries have waiting times of around 2 weeks. Patients are simply opting to go to A&E depts. to be seen quicker. The future it would appear lies in the private sector with your ability to pay being the prerequisite.
