| An inspiring array of candidates indeed. I'd suggest we can predict pretty well whether we've gained from this leave vote. a) until the UK exit is agreed and put in place the UK must remain as a EU trading company; it cannot start post-exit terms with the EU nor indeed with any other country. This means 2 years of commercial disadvantage for the UK businesses - try winning deals anywhere with this uncertainty b) with reduces overseas trade, as inevitable, and increased costs of imports from a weaker pound the UK balance of payments will significantly worsen and so will the national debt and government borrowing c) Both the above will put enormous pressure on the government, at the time of formal exit, to accept the quickest and easiest trading agreements. As we export most to the EU, this will pressurise the UK into moving into the EEA - with all the conditions in place that comes with that. Any other outcome assumes some miraculous UK economic growth, a EU desperate for UK goods and services (really?), or some brilliant UK negotiating tactic that has not yet been invented. But the ever optimistic leave voters still think the above won't happen and that they made the right decision. |
