| I am 70 as is my husband and most of my friends are too. We are all Remain voters and are shocked and appalled by the reaction to the referendum in this country. It is deeply disturbing to consider what might happen in the future months and years. I for one voted for Remain because I thought that the UK had a positive influence in the EU and could help to control the rise of the Right Wing of Political thought and the resurgence of power in parts of Europe and beyond which would be best controlled and restrained. The machinations of the various political parties in this country do nothing to inspire confidence that we can and/or will move out of this into a brighter future. I welcome immigration. I have always lived surrounded by immigrants from other countries and they have enriched my life. Some were escaping economic problems, some persecution but all were welcome and still are in my view. I grew up with Polish people. Jewish people from Germany and beyond, Hungarians, Nigerians, Italians, French, Greeks, Cypriots, Kenyans. I could go on. I don't like the idea of the Australian system and I don't think most people who voted for Leave had any idea what that would mean. Sorry rant over. |
