| Actual traffic surveys on the bridge prior to closure show 1400 buss per day on average. But putting that to one side, the point of the pods is not a like-for-like replacement of the multiple bus routes that used to go across the bridge. If you look at the BHELT website (the group organising the trials) they make it clear it is targeted at "those who need it most". So if you can, walk across the bridge, if you can't, the pods provide another option. As to how those who are unable to walk across the bridge would be prioritised over the merely lazy remains to be seen. But TfL do run services for disabled using minibuses that are only available to registered users, not the general public, and that may be the model for the autonomous pods rather than comparing them with a standard bus. |
