Keith: You are only looking at one family name! We each have two parents, four grandparents, eight great-grandparents etc in an ordinary family arrangement. Our patronymic naming system is not a worldwide accepted system and in other parts of the world the naming system acknowledges greater descent (other exceptions accepted). Names have also often been anglicized or changed to disguise descent. DNA can now also show greater variations than families themselves know. |
