| This is not a "fact" sheet. It is a list of arguments (some distinctly specious) contained in a Government policy paper justifying the Conservative Illegal Immigration Bill. The idea that most people risking boat crossings are economic migrants rather than genuine asylum seekers is belied by the statistics of asylum case determinations. In 2022 76% of initial decisions resulted in a grant of asylum, and in 2023 67% of applications were granted. |
