The Euston section of HS2 will absorb most of the remaining skilled construction workforce. Other economies in the world would manage this issue by having a large South Asia construction workforce basically confined to compounds while the work was being carried out. I'm not sure our legal or ethical framework would allow us to do this. Labour might feel they have to wait a few years and then make expansion a manifesto commitment at the next election knowing that the Tories and Reform would probably not be able to pledge to stop it. |
