While you can quibble about some people benefitting more from growth than others, the pain of no growth will hit the most vulnerable hardest. As a nation we are highly indebted, have an aging population which will bring further costs in terms of pensions and health service funding, an increasing amount of sickness and people opting out of the workforce and have hamstrung our economy by leaving the EU. If we want to maintain or improve public services and keep a lid on our national debt then there is absolutely no alternative to growing the productive sectors of the economy. If you are looking to expand trade with global markets to spur growth you can't then say you won't grow the principle means of transporting those goods. |
