This is an FCDO spokesman's comment on today's horrendous bombing of the camp for displaced persons in Rafah: "The UK is clear that we do not support a major military operation in Rafah without a plan to protect the hundreds of thousands of civilians who remain there. "The fastest way to end the conflict is to secure a deal which gets the hostages out and allows for a pause in the fighting in Gaza. We must then work with our international partners to turn that pause into a long term sustainable ceasefire." So are they implying that the level of violence in Rafah hasn't yet reached that of a major military operation which they would be unable to support? If not, why are they not condemning this outrage in the strongest terms, as Macron has done? And what chance of securing a deal to get the hostages out after today's events? We are all shamed by the government's willingness to turn a blind eye to atrocities. |
