A good point, Michael. We shouldn't forget that over half a million people have been killed in Syria, and half the population displaced, since 2011. But there is a difference between Syria and Israel: Syria isn't a client state of the US, and American influence to stop the civil war is limited. Unless it wants to engage in a war with Russia, there's not much the US can do other than impose sanctions. But where it does have influence, it has done nothing to restrain Netanyahu's excesses, and the UK, in its abstention on Security Council resolutions (until the last anodyne one), and its continued insistence on Israel's right to defend itself, has been largely complicit. |
