Robert, I did read your post carefully, and understood it, but it appears you did not. You wrote: “I wonder how much of my post you read or understood. I specifically avoided calling the Israeli actions genocide.” But you had said earlier, “there may be some doubt as to whether the intention is to destroy that group, in whole or in part, or whether it is to kill sufficient members of that group to force them to disown Hamas. But either way the effect is tantamount to genocide.” I am not aiming to serve as an apologist for either side, just trying to point out that this is complex and tragic situation in which both sides have just cause for grievance and have carried out shameful actions. It has to be said you come across as quite sanctimonious in condemning your neighbours for not wishing to comment on the matter and insisting that their silence equals callousness and indifference. Expounding your views in a strident (yes strident) manner and expressing opinions as fact is not an indication that you are a more caring person that the rest of us. Most people recognise, that if you want to encourage peace, the last thing you should do is pick a side in a war. |
