| I don't think what you and Tom are doing here really counts as scrutiny in the sense it would normally be understood. You are attempting to discredit the views of a local businesswoman who has been a vociferous opponent of schemes you support in the Grove Park area. What you are basically asking the rest of us to believe is that she is so irrational she has formed a preconception about how her businesses is being affected that can't be shaken by evidence to the contrary. The more obvious conclusion would be that, as she sees the accounts, talks to her staff as well as her customers and presumably is on site for much of the time, she knows what she is talking about. She has been in the industry for decades and, while warnings about imminent closure of her businesses may possibly be exaggerated, it is simply inconceivable that she has profoundly misunderstood what has been happening as you are suggesting. Business people don't have any particular agenda when it comes to transport policy, so when they tell us a particular measure is positive or negative for their revenues, there is no good reason to doubt what they say. |
