Your figures were interesting Edward, but they would seem to omit the rather more crucial data on mileage. You quote "in 1999 the average car (diving 12,000 miles a year". The figures for 2018 show that the average mileage for England as being under 7,700 miles, and for the UK as a whole being under 7,900. Which would go a long way for compensating any additional weight and CO2 emissions per km.
