Andrew, that’s twice in two days you are making claims with no evidence to support them. Yesterday it was a claim that WiFi and GPS must be considered for railway signalling when a bit of research would have told you they aren’t, and today it is claims about traffic which again aren’t supported by evidence. For example, “probably mean there are more cars on West London roads at any given time than there were before the bridge closure”, Errr.... no.  Two minutes research on the DfT website would tell you that the traffic over Chiswick Bridge following Hammersmith bridge closure to motor traffic is the same level it was in 2008 and still less than the years before then. Other locations tell a similar story. I can quite believe that more traffic going over Chiswick bridge is now cutting through residential streets because of GPS apps but that can be addressed by low traffic neighbourhoods projects to discourage traffic using residential areas as a through route. Despite all the evidence, I wonder why some people are so resistant to the concept of traffic evaporation and consider it “nonsense” and “dangerous”? Could it be that evidence of people changing their driving habits casts a spotlight on their own driving habits?
